On my quest to eliminate high fructose corn syrup from my diet I’ve had to completely revamp my drink menu. I’ve cut out the nectar of the gods, the ambrosia of Texas – Dr. Pepper. I’ve been hopelessly addicted to the stuff for years, so I have tried to find alternate drinks to help maintain my DP abstinence.
Of course I never go anywhere without my water bottle, but a girl likes a little flavor sometimes too. While I was out with the kids yesterday we drove through one of our favorite restaurants Chick-fil-A. I was a little hesitant to drive through because the line was at least 12 cars long. But in Chick-fil-A fashion they had several employees outside taking orders from car windows. This sped things up tremendously and we had our food in under 3 minutes!!! Great service.
I ordered their famous lemonade with my meal, but I was a little unsure of the sweetener they use in it. If Chick-fil-A was to follow the crowd and take the economical route they would probably use corn syrup in their recipe. I would never know unless I asked, so I did. The recipe is water, lemons, and REAL SUGAR!!!! Outside of grocery stores, Chick-fil-A is the largest purchaser of fresh lemons in the U.S., they squeeze 71 million lemons every year. A large glass of lemonade at Chick-fil-A gives you 35% of the recommended daily amount of vitamin C and uses real sugar (the diet version uses Splenda.) On top of all that drinking real lemonade helps keep kidney stones at bay and you can buy it by the gallon.
So chalk one up for Chick-fil-A.
My favorite Chick-fil-A meal, a #5 with a lemonade.

Somewhere just south of Dallas, TX, Phil Browne is smiling…
OH MY GOSH!!!
I am laughing my tush off.
I have just recently started cutting out HFCS . AND had (have) a serious addiction to Dr Pepper…though I call it “The Drink of Champions” or “The Elixer of the gods.”
Anyway…I found your blog by googling the ingredients of Chick-fil-A’s sweet tea.
GREAT POST!
LOL!
